Seaton Tramway - From Dream to Reality
Duration approx 50 mins
 |
This fascinating programme takes you on an extended visit to Seaton Tramway, the unique narrow gauge line which runs through East Devon's glorious Axe Valley.
Using archive footage and interviews with key figures, the programme traces the history of this fascinating operation.
Including scenes of Eastbourne Tramway in the 50s and 60s, the story also covers the traumatic move to Seaton in 1970 and the line's steady evolution to its present day position as a much loved attraction. Anthony Phillips provides an evocative soundtrack from his Slow Dance album, which perfectly compliments the beautiful scenery of the Axe Valley, including close-ups of the wading birds of the River Axe, an ornithologist's paradise.
Viewers also get a look behind the scenes at Riverside Depot, join the track gang at work, and enjoy a ride in the cab with the drivers. There's also an evening trip on the illuminated "boat" tram. This video is a real gem, whether as a memento of previous visits, or as something to whet the appetite for the future!
